Somalia: Alshabab rebels force civilians to attend Sharia Law sessions
Baidabo(Alshahid) – For the third consecutive day in Baidabo the capital of the Bay region, Al-shabab fighters are forcefully carrying out public awareness and information programs to sensitize local citizens on the significance of implementation of Sharia Law and strict observance of Islamic belifs.
The exercise is being carried out all over the district, with residents being forced to attend the exercise or face the wrath of Al-shabab fighters.
An official of Alshabab in charge of spreading Sharia Law within the Bay region, Mr. Maalim Gadudow, announced that his group will punish those members of society who will not attend said exercises.
They want locals to learn more about Islamic religion and law a precursor to their intended implementation of a harsh interpretation of the faith’s principles and holy Koran.
The public sessions are being held at market places targeting businessmen and women who make the majority of the Baidabo town population especially at this time when farm products are in season.
It is not the first time Al-shabab has introduced new orders to force citizens to participate in activities their harsh and draconian activities.
The al-Qaeda backed rebel group, which controls larger parts of the country is now embroiled in a fierce battle with the UN backed Somali government aided by AU troops (AMISOM).
