Museveni puts himself first in the “National Cake” share.

Kampala (Alshahid) -President Museveni said on Monday that it is time for the government to tarmac the road leading to his home town-in Kiruhura District and give him a share of the “national cake”.

“I have prioritized and worked on different roads in the country,” President Museveni said, “I am now tired of dust and will work on my own small road going home. I want also to share the national cake.” he said as he was speaking during the Women’s Day celebrations in Bushenyi District.

The road from Lyantonde to Rwakitura in President Museveni’s  home District is a murram road, though well-maintained it is dusty. The untarmacked road to the president’s home town has always been a political symbol of selflessness and a leadership story of putting others first.
The President took issue with the tendering process claiming that it is the den of corruption.
“Tendering of roads should stop with immediate effect,” he said. “They take a lot of money and they don’t do a good job.”

The president acknowledged that the government had erred in relying on donor support to build and repair roads but noted that expanding tax revenues had given the government more say in the matter.
“Now we can manage to work on these roads ourselves,” the President said.

Mr Museveni did not read his prepared speech stating that it would be aired on local and national media due to the unfavourable weather in Bushenyi; instead he gave off-the-cuff  remarks.

In reference to opposition supporters who were demonstrating in Kampala over poor health care in the country, President Museveni retorted: “I am aware of the problems in the Ministry of Health. The doctors have been stealing drugs, which is shameful. It is like a child who steals from its mother.”
