Veteran Somali journalist dies in Jig-jiga town

Ahmed Hassan Awke, a veteran Somali journalist has died in Jig-jiga town, zone five region in Ethiopia after suffering heart disease for short days.

The journalist joined state media, in particular, Radio Mogadishu in 1972 and national television in 1980s, he was both newscaster and program presenter before he finally became spokesman of the Somali Republic, H.E. Mohamed Siyad Bare in 1990.

Mr. Awke worked for BBC-Somalia, VOA and other TV stations after the former government of Somalia collapsed in 1991.

Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. extended condolence to the families, friends of the deceased journalist, saying the dead served his nation during period of being professionalism. May his soul rest in Janna
