AU demands an embargo on the areas ruled by the Somali rebels .
Addis Ababa (Alshahid) – Members of the security council of African Union who held a meeting at the AU headquarters Addis Ababa has today agreed upon a proposal by the Ugandan government which demanded an immediate land and sea embargo on territories under the control of Islamist militias in Somalia.
In a press statement released today, the council said that the Islamists were using the airports and seaports to get arms from the world and also to recruit global Islamist fighter from other counties. The statement also added that the security council of African Union sent a copy of the agreement to the UN and hopes that the UN will deal with it seriously.
The Islamist rebels who are opposed to the transitional federal government and the presence of AMISOM in the country control large parts of Somalia.
