Puntland: International ships are responsible for the increase in piracy.
Bosaso (Alshahid) – Fishing and Resource Minister in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland has on Wednesday accused international ships of running after their own interest and goals.
Mr. Mohammed Farah Aden further said that this international navies are not there in the shores of Somalia to protect it’s resources but for their own motives.
“As we know at least 27 war ships are in the seashores. They say we keep the resources of the Somali coasts or water and we do not see any activities they did except their own and we are very sorry for that,” said the minister.
The Minister also accused the international fishing ships for illegally fishing in Somalia’s waters. He holds them responsibility in the rise of piracy in the Somalia coast. He said these ships destroyed the small fishing boats of Somali youth thus compelling them to be pirates.
At the same time Mr. Farah condemned the illegal activities of the pirates and asked them to stop.
