Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially opened on Tuesday the reconciliation conference for Jubba communities in Kismayo, the provincial capital of Lower Jubba region.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced after landed Kismayo air port that the conference is officially opened and he called all the stakeholders to attend so to support peace process.
Officials from government, representatives from IGAD, traditional elders and members of civil society groups in Lower Jubba, Middle Jubba and Gedo regions are attend the reconciliation conference though some of stakeholders boycott it.
Abdi Balley Hussein, the chairman of Interim Jubba Administration reconciliation committee urged politicians, intellectuals and society groups from the region to participate in the conference so reach peace and prosperity.
The security of the city has been heightened ahead of the opening ceremony of the conference.
Interim Jubba Administration security forces and AMISOM troops have been patrolling major roads around the conference venue.
Businesses and schools are closed while traffic movement has been restricted for security purposes ahead of the conference.
Meanwhile, Col. Barre Shire Aden Hirale, a former warlord who recently agreed to join the peace process in Jubba regions said in press conference on Sunday that the reconciliation conference will be held on October 1.
He added any conference held before October 1 is meant to mislead the peace process for Jubba communities.
