Afgoye (Alshahid) – An official with the rebel group of Hizbul Islam Sheik Osman Fidow Hassan escaped an assassination attempt when unidentified assailants hurled a hand grenade on his house in Afgoye town, 30 km south of Mogadishu, witness and officials said on Tuesday.
Hizbul Islam and Al shabab who are described by Washington as al-Qaida’s proxy in the region control the better part of Mogadishu leaving the Transitional federal government to control few blocks.
The assailants escaped after the attack and their motive still remains mystery.
The official, Sheik Osman Fidow Hassan was not harmed in the attack.
This is the second attack aimed at the group within a fort night following Barre Ali Barre’s attack in Mogadishu.
