Dozen people killed in Tanzania road accident
Dar es Salam (Alshahid)-At least 13 Kenyans died and more than 40 others injured in grisly road accident in Tanga, Tanzania early on Friday.
The dead were part of a group of women from the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Landless parish in Thika, Kenya who were heading for a mission in the neighbouring country.
Tanzanian Police say the accident that happened in Mandere area after a lorry hit a stationary bus and overturned on the victims near a bridge.
The majority of the victims are women members of a church and they were headed to Dar-es-Salaam for a meeting when the incident happened Friday morning.
Fifty eight survivors were flown back to Kenya late Friday after the President Mwai Kibaki directed the Air force to facilitate their safe return.
Kenyan police said preliminary findings showed there were about 80 members of the church who were headed for the event in two buses.
