Mogadishu (Alshahid) - The administration of Ahlu-Sunnah Waljama, a group that is seen t be moderate and is believed to have close ties to the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia has banned women from covering their faces.
Sheikh Mohammed Tantawi, spokesman of the group said that the move is to curb the escalating insecurity and the use of veils to disguise and commit atrocities. He emphasized that they will not implement the rule aggressively.
“We shall not forcefully instruct women to uncover their, but we are instructing them not to cover their faces, because there are some wicked people who use the face for negative purposes, we have several times caught people who have disguised their faces pretending to be women and loaded with explosive, we are advising all women to abstain from covering their faces for instance you can see that the recent suicide attack in Mogadishu where several important people were killed and this was carried out by a man who had covered his face” said the spokesman of Ahlu-Sunnah Waljama in central Somalia.
The group is seen moderate and has recently signed agreement with the T.F.G. in Guri-El district in Galgadud region in central Somalia.
