Mr Abdirahman Abdishakur Announced his Candidacy of Somali Preisdent

Mogdishu (Alshahid) – A Somali law maker and Former minister of Planning and International Corporation, Mr Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame has today announced his candidacy for presidential election of Somalia scheduled to be held August 2012.  A well organised event attended by Clan Elders, Politicians, Members of Civil Society and Youth Activist, Mr Warsame who was architecture of Djibouti agreement in 2008  presented his political programme underlined that he will focus on security, justice and building government institutions.

“Somalia is at a critical juncture and crossroads. A rare historic opportunity exists to advance the goals of meaningful and comprehensive reforms. Failure to seize it will irreparably harm the prospects for change. Mr warsame Said in his speech.

“I hereby wish to unveil a political vision and programme to set the nation on the right course towards the future we all aspire to – a future of peace, social harmony and prosperity”.

Mr warsame who once chaired Council For Arab League Ministers, and represented Somalia to regional and international conference, promised setting up consistent and clear foreign policy based on marriage of principle and pragmatic not rigid ideology. He repeatedly acknowledged challenges and tough tasks ahead.

“I am fully aware of the difficult path ahead. I am equally aware of the need to reach out to all the political forces and constituencies; make the necessary compromises and adjustments to accommodate other views; forge partnerships and adopt a common agenda and platform for reform. What I am not going to do is to feed you false hopes, empty promises and clichéd policy prescriptions – in a word, continue with the deadening business-as-usual style and culture of conducting politics”.

Ugas Abdi Dahir Ugas Nur the traditional elder of Mr Warsame Constituency has welcomed the candidacy of Mr warsame and assured full support for the candidate. A former prime minister of TNG, Hasan Abshir Farah who welcomed Mr Warsame’ Candidacy has pointed out that its rights time and right man for right job, indicating Mr warsame experience of governance, negations skills and leadership strength. Former Deputy Speaker, Prof Dalha has praised Mr Warsame’s record of cleanness and respect for minorities, illustrating his experience of dealing when Mr Warsame was executive director for High Commission of Drought and Famine in mid Nineties.

“Many people may be on familiar terms with Mr Warsame as a politician, but I know him as a humanitarian and I discovered his sense of humanity and kindness. His doors was open when other were closed against minorities , and he really showed me and my community kindness and compassion which I never forgot”  Said Mr Dalha. Among other speakers included former minister and law maker Hassan Dhinbil, Mr Mohamed Hasan Haad, chairman of Hawiye council of elders, Abdulahi Shirwa, peace and human right activist, and women representative Mrs Ubah Tahlil.
