Somalia Civil Society Groups Meeting Takes Place in Istanbul

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Sunday that Turkey would keep extending a great assistance to Somalia.

Davutoglu participated in the meeting of Somalia Civil Society Groups in Istanbul held ahead of the 2nd Istanbul Somalia Conference set to be held between May 31 and June 1, 2012.

Somalia has become one of the most important issues in Turkey’s foreign policy because there were deep rooted ties between the two countries, he said.

Turkey assumed a great leadership in every initiative for Somalia since Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the country in August 2011, he said.

Davutoglu said that Turkey opened an embassy in Somalia, stating that Turkish airline company, THY also launched flight services to Mogadishu.

If Somaliland is not represented here and it is not then this whole hoopla is not going to work. Somaliland is not part of what ever this gathering comes up it. I think the Turkish people should be told that and the mess their government is falling into. They all ready committed a huge mistake in the eyes of the Somaliland population when they took our kids to Mogadisho from Hargeisa promising they will take care of them and what happened a disaster. Now, they are being fooled to believe that this rage tag group of people represent all Somalis. They aren’t. Somaliland is an independent country that has nothing to do with southern Somalia for the Past 21 years. So I as a citizen of SL not commit a mistake thinking Somalia is one.
