Ugandan President to visit Mogadishu.

museveniMogadishu (Alshahid) – Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, is set to visit the Somalia capital Mogadishu, where thousands of Ugandan troops are stationed as a part of the African Union contingent in Somalia.

President Museveni is expected to visit the Ugandan troops in Mogadishu and his Somalia President Sheik Sharif Ahmed unconfirmed reports said on Sunday

His visit comes at a time when the AMISOM troops have opened a new base in Mogadishu and since this morning the troops were deployed to their new military base established at the former Digfeer Hospital in Mogadishu’s Maka al Mukarama road that connects the airport and the presidential palace.

Digfer hospital once used to be the largest and best equipped hospital in the whole of Somalia.

This move is seen as a measure to beef up security in the area

AU units in the capital Mogadishu were so far only based at Km4 intersection in the heart of the city, near the airport, the seaport and the presidential palace

There are over 4,500 African Union troops from Uganda and Burundi in the Somali capital Mogadishu and since their arrival they had to endure several attacks including a double suicide attack in which more than 20 soldiers including the deputy commander of the African Union troops lost their lives.
