Nairobi (Alshahid)-Thirteen people died on the spot and 33 others were injured Monday in road accident along the Mwingi -Garissa road 15 kilometers from Mwingi town.

Eastern Provincial Police chief Marcus Ochola said the 62- seater bus belonging to Dalsan Bus Company veered off the road and rolled several times near Nguni market.

The ill fated bus was heading to Mandera via Garissa and had left Nairobi with a capacity of 62 passengers.

The Kenya Red Cross reported that of the 33 passengers who were injured, 30 were treated and discharged while three others remained admitted at Mwingi Hospital.

On Saturday morning, 11 people perished near Voi when a Nairobi-bound bus collided with an oncoming truck.

Statistics available at the Traffic Headquarters in Nairobi show an increase in the number of accidents in the country, particularly on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, Thika Highway and Mombasa road where up to 20 people are killed weekly.
