AMISOM accused of latest civilian deaths in Somalia capital
Mogadishu (Alshahid) – Fingers of accusation are being pointed at the African Union troops in Somalia (AMISOM) for Thursday’s targeted bombardment to parts of Hodan and Wardhigley district in the capital at night where more than 5 civilians were killed and many others were injuired.
Locals claim that mortars from AMISOM’s bases landed in various parts in Wardigley and Hodan district in the capital, killing 5 civilians while others were seriously injured.
Health sources and witnesses said that several of the injured civilians who were rushed to hospital were in a very critical condition.
The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has had it difficult to protect civilians, vital state institutions and themselves from sporadic rebels’ attacks since alshabab militants use civilian population as shields and combat camouflage.
Nevertheless, credible human rights reports have constantly accused both the Islamists and AMISOM/TFG(Government troops) forces for gross violation of international humanitarian law relating to war.
African Union troops AMISOM are so far yet to respond to these latest accusations, interestingly from civilians.
